What Is GHRP-2?
GHRP-2 is a synthetic hexapeptide from the same ghrelin-receptor secretagogue research program at Tulane University that produced GHRP-6, and it binds the same target: GHSR1a. Despite sharing a receptor and a research lineage with GHRP-6, GHRP-2 has a distinct amino acid sequence, and early comparative pharmacology found it to be a substantially more potent growth-hormone secretagogue on a per-dose basis, while producing comparatively less pronounced appetite stimulation and off-target cortisol and prolactin activation than GHRP-6 — though it remains considerably less receptor-selective than later compounds like Ipamorelin.

GHRP-2 sits alongside GHRP-6, Ipamorelin, Tesamorelin, and CJC-1295 in growth-hormone-axis research, but its most distinctive application is diagnostic rather than purely investigational: GHRP-2 has been evaluated, particularly in Japanese clinical research, as a provocative testing agent to help diagnose growth hormone deficiency, administered specifically to measure the resulting GH response against reference thresholds. GHRP-2's growth-hormone-releasing potency has been characterized in human pharmacology research since the 1990s, consistently finding it more potent than GHRP-6 as a GH secretagogue on a per-dose basis. Its use as a diagnostic reagent for GH-deficiency testing has been studied primarily in Japan, where GHRP-2-stimulated GH release has been evaluated as a provocative test alongside other established diagnostic methods such as insulin-induced hypoglycemia and arginine infusion.
