GHRH & Growth Hormone

Sermorelin

Sermorelin is the earlier, unmodified compound that CJC-1295 and Tesamorelin's stability modifications were built to improve on — and unlike most compounds referenced on this site, it has a completed pediatric FDA approval history.

Not currently stocked by KYIN Peptides, but available to order — see availability below.

What Is Sermorelin?

Sermorelin is a synthetic fragment corresponding to the first 29 amino acids of native growth-hormone-releasing hormone — GHRH(1-29). It retains full GHRH receptor bioactivity but is cleared from circulation quickly, which is precisely why later analogs like CJC-1295 and Tesamorelin were engineered with stability modifications for a longer half-life.

Research Focus

Sermorelin represents the foundational, unmodified GHRH signal that KYIN's stocked GHRH analogs build on. See our GHRH & Growth Hormone research overview for how it fits alongside CJC-1295 and Tesamorelin, or how Hexarelin compares as another non-stocked compound in this category.

Clinical & Preclinical Trial Data

Unlike most compounds referenced on this site, sermorelin has a completed pediatric approval history. The pivotal trials supporting its FDA approval (as Geref, in a 110-patient trial of prepubertal children with idiopathic GH deficiency) found daily subcutaneous sermorelin increased height velocity from a baseline of 4.1 cm/year to 8.0 cm/year, with the effect sustained through 36 months of continuous therapy; 74% of treated children showed increased growth velocity after 6 months.

Geref was FDA-approved in 1990 (with a further approval in 1997) and later discontinued from the market in 2008 — a 2013 FDA determination confirmed the withdrawal was for commercial reasons, not safety or effectiveness. Sermorelin is now available only through compounding pharmacies rather than as an FDA-approved commercial product.

FAQ

Sermorelin questions

What is Sermorelin?

Sermorelin is a synthetic fragment corresponding to the first 29 amino acids of native growth-hormone-releasing hormone, GHRH(1-29). It retains full GHRH receptor bioactivity but is cleared from circulation quickly, which is why later analogs like CJC-1295 and Tesamorelin were engineered for a longer half-life.

How is Sermorelin different from CJC-1295?

Sermorelin is the unmodified GHRH(1-29) fragment — it has full native bioactivity but is cleared from circulation quickly. CJC-1295 is a structurally modified version of the same GHRH signal, engineered specifically to resist that rapid degradation and extend its duration of action.

Was Sermorelin ever an approved drug?

Yes — as Geref, it was FDA-approved in 1990 (with a further approval in 1997) for pediatric growth hormone deficiency, but was discontinued from the market in 2008. A 2013 FDA determination confirmed the withdrawal was for commercial reasons, not safety or effectiveness. Sermorelin is now available only through compounding pharmacies rather than as an FDA-approved commercial product.

Does KYIN Peptides sell Sermorelin?

Not as part of our standard catalogue, but yes — it's available to order. Contact us directly and we'll source it for you.
