What Is BPC-157 + GHK-Cu?
BPC-157 is a synthetic pentadecapeptide derived from a protective protein found in gastric juice, discovered by Predrag Sikiric's research group at the University of Zagreb, and is one of the most extensively studied compounds in gut-repair and musculoskeletal-healing literature. GHK-Cu is a naturally occurring copper-binding tripeptide (glycyl-L-histidyl-L-lysine complexed with copper), discovered by Dr. Loren Pickart in the 1970s, studied for its role in skin and connective-tissue research, particularly collagen synthesis and wound healing. The two compounds share no structural relationship and were discovered decades apart through entirely different research programs, but both converge on tissue-repair research, which is why they're frequently paired.
Why Study Them Together?
BPC-157's research base is concentrated in gastric and musculoskeletal tissue — tendon, ligament, and gut models — while GHK-Cu's is concentrated in dermal and connective-tissue models involving collagen and extracellular matrix remodeling. Because the two mechanisms address related but distinct aspects of tissue repair, researchers commonly study them combined to examine whether pairing a gastric-protective mechanism with a copper-peptide collagen mechanism produces broader regenerative effects than either compound studied alone. Clinical & Preclinical Trial Data
No trial has tested the BPC-157 + GHK-Cu combination itself. Individually: no completed human clinical trials exist for BPC-157 — a registered Phase I trial (42 healthy volunteers) was cancelled in 2016 with no published results, and the only human data available is a small 2025 pilot study of intravenous BPC-157 in 2 healthy adults reporting no adverse effects, with the evidence base otherwise overwhelmingly animal and in-vitro research from Sikiric's group. GHK-Cu has a longer human research history, including small-scale topical human trials in dermal research.
